The seven habits will help you move from a state of dependence to independence, and finally to interdependence. The 7 habits can be summarized into 3. Here they are:
A. Time Management or Self-Management.
If you want to increase your effectiveness, performance, and productivity, then, you must follow the principles below.
1. Be Proactive – Circle of Influence
Proactive people recognize that they are “response-able.” They don’t blame genetics, circumstances, conditions, or conditioning for their behavior. You own your behavior, actions, and results/failures. Focus on what you can control rather than what you can’t control.
2. Begin with End in Mind
All things are created twice. It was first created in the mind (Mental or Spiritual Creation) and then, in the physical (Second Creation). You can control your life by seeking a balance between mental and physical creation. If you can imagine it, you can create it. Be clear about your purpose, mission, vision, and goals in life. Pursue them with tenacity. Ask yourself: What does my success look like in the next ten years? If you can see it, you can achieve it. Start writing your script and play it out. Prioritize what’s important to you.
3. Put First Thing First
This is the habit of self-discipline and time management. It’s where habits 1 and 2 connect. It focuses on urgency, importance, and priority. You need to prioritize what is most important to you, not what is most urgent. Avoid things that drain your energy and make you unproductive. Know when to say No and when to say Yes. Set goals, plan your actions, and develop weekly schedules that will help you achieve your goals. To be effective, you need to balance relationships, roles, and activities related to business, family, career, and ministry.
B. Building and Managing Relationships – Influence and Impacts.
If you want to be a person of influence and a leader that makes a difference, you must follow the principles below.
4. Seek First To Understood
Communication is the most important skill in life and business, it is hinged on active listening. You need to listen more than you speak. Feedback is an important tool for your success. If you want to influence anyone, you need to learn to listen and understand them. Your empathetic listening can inspire trust, loyalty, and confidence in your partner, colleagues, and subordinates. You will become a better leader by following this principle.
5. Think Win-Win
It is not my way; it is not your way; it is the better way. That’s how the saying goes. Don’t try to win at the expense of productivity. Seek to solve problems rather than creating a full load of them. You win by making others win. This principle works in every facet of life and it will make you a better person.
6. Synergy
Creative collaboration and cooperation are the keys to business success. Two are always better than one and together, they can achieve better results. The essence of synergy is to value diversity, individual differences, unique talents, skills, and creativity. We can maximize each other’s strengths to achieve better results and at the same time, we can improve each other’s weaknesses to get better at achieving our goals. Synergy is influenced by trust, communication, and cooperation. Each of us has differences and limitations, these must be valued and respected.
