DEVELOPING A VALUE CREATION MINDSET TO IMPROVE PERFORMANCE
The major difference between two brands or businesses is the approach and mindset. There’s a value creation mindset and there’s a fixed mindset, you have always been used to.
A mindset is an aspect of a decision theory and general systems theory that explains the notion of philosophy held by people or groups of people. “Mind-sets are that collection of beliefs and thoughts that make up the mental attitude, inclination, habit or disposition that predetermines a person’s interpretations and responses to events, circumstances, and situations.”
“Indecision theory and general systems theory, a mindset is a set of assumptions, methods, or notions held by one or more people or groups of people. A mindset can also be seen as arising out of a person’s worldview or philosophy of life”
What’s Value Creation and Fixed Mindset?
Value creation is about being to your audience or market, what they want you to be to them. It’s about delivering value to your audience on their terms. “Putting together the right combination of Quality, Service, and Price (QSP) for benefit of your market and satisfying customer requirements at the lowest possible cost of acquisition, ownership, and use”.
For this to happen, you’ve got to understand the need and galvanize/organize your resources to meet that need. It’s about knowing the when, how, and where value is required and ensuring that the right level of resources is provided to make things happen. It’s about flexibility and focuses on understanding the customer’s primary and hidden expectations.
On the other hand, a fixed mindset is the belief that things can not change. That intelligence, personality, skills, and talents cannot be improved or are unchangeable. This mindset is characterized as static intelligence where individuals and businesses give up easily, avoid challenges, see effort as fruitless, ignore useful negative feedback, and feel threatened by the success of others.
“Having a value creation and ownership mindset serves as a key factor in accelerating the growth and development of an individual within an organization. An employee who possesses a value creation mindset is one with a long-term vision. People with long term visions are more likely to succeed than people with a short-term vision”.
Changing your belief and attitude can have a powerful impact on your success and achievement. A value creation mindset creates a powerful passion for learning, writes Dweck. You can improve everything about yourself and or business when you think that efforts, talents, skills, intelligence and attitude can be improved upon and that the improvement can lead to creating sustainable value to your target audience or market. Nothing is static in life, all things are always changing.
Brands and businesses that adopt a mindset to create value hold the key to becoming truly successful leaders in their field and industry, says Brian Hall.
